Thank you Cass for continuing to make the rights of animals a rational conversation. Our work on behalf of horses progresses but the issue you raise here keeps suppressing the political will to pass the SAFE Act even though no one is actually against it!

Another fascinating read. I’d be interested to hear what you think about the kind of animal rights Robert Nozick referenced in Anarchy State and Utopia—“utilitarianism for animals, Kantianism for people,” which accounts for animals in moral calculations to the extent animals can have pleasurable experiences, but allows animals to be used for the gain of other animals and persons when the benefits would outweigh the costs, even if it would be against that animal’s will.
